“If I did not feel this way, I could teach many topics in a more creative and engaging way. I am really trying to keep these elements alive, but it is harder to do now than in the past. This isn’t to say that kids shouldn’t be assessed — I just wish there was as much value placed on formative classroom evaluations, portfolio pieces, and teacher observations as there seems to be on standardized test data.”
